These domain names can be personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are popular by. At first, just third-level registrations were allowed, so if you planned to order john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already grabbed 3rd-level domain names remained online.
