Transferring an already registered domain name entails changing the company that handles the domain name registration service, so after the transfer, you’ll have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS resource record updates through the new domain registrar. The transfer process is standard with most generic and country-code Top-Level Domain extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain name involves several basic steps and one of them is unlocking the domain. The domain lock is a security feature, which is being embraced by more and more registry operators. It is a standard feature supported by all generic top-level domain names. If a domain name is locked, it will be impossible to initiate a transfer procedure, so nobody can even try to take your domain. The domain lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain is registered in the first place and all new domain names that support this functionality are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

If you order a shared hosting plan from our company, you’ll be able to administer all domains registered through us via our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and you’ll be able to unlock any of them with only a few clicks. All registrations will be shown alphabetically in the Domain Manager section of the Control Panel and for each one of them you’ll see a small padlock icon. Clicking on it will show you the present security lock status. If the domain name is locked and you wish to transfer it, you will just need to click once more and that’s it. Locking a domain name is just as easy and since the domain names are managed in the same place as the hosting account itself, you won’t need to log in and out of different admin interfaces.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you would like to transfer a domain name from our company to another domain registrar and you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to get the domain ready with just a few clicks. All your domain name registrations will be listed in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the exact same tool via which you’ll manage your web hosting account. If a specific gTLD or ccTLD supports the registrar lock option, you’ll notice a padlock-like icon. You can see if the domain name is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can alter the status by clicking once more. This is all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or we will need to do, so you can continue with the transfer process right away. The change will take effect instantaneously, so you won’t need to wait for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites.
