The .SE country-code top-level extension was launched in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration process was very restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were obtained. Persons were permitted to grab solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a prerequisite, i.e. only Swedish individuals, business entities and organizations were able to buy a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, consequently, the number of .SE domains has been rising each year.

Today, anyone can acquire a .SE domain name, which gives you the opportunity to contact the Swedish web community even if you do not have a local presence.
