There are many ways to redirect a domain name to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. If you own a domain name and you've set up a site through some online service which provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that points to subdomain.provider.com. What you're going to achieve as a result is that www.your-domain.com will be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. It is very important to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain name may have will stop working, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and working email addresses with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and frequently more configuration may be necessary with the other company.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record using our shared hosting plans is really simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in only a few simple steps. You can find a video tutorial in the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you many options - if you set up a company site on our end, for example, the workers can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to create an Internet site using a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain address hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you could set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and point it to the main domain address, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a challenging task to people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single semi-dedicated hosting plan which we provide, is extremely simple to use. If you need to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you need to do will be to choose the domain name or subdomain you need, pick the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then type the value i.e. the domain address or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is very easy and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record will be completely active and within a few hours it'll propagate worldwide. If you aren't sure what you have to do, we've prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial on how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both situated in that same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for help whenever you want.
